YAGABALING

Yagabaling means ‘to make something new’.

Karul is very excited to announce the opening of our 4th annual First Nations Residency Opportunity, Yagabaling. We will support a First Nations performing artist/s to come to Karul to develop their skills, project and ideas. An opportunity to focus for two (2) weeks full-time that transitions into Ngari Ngali-Wahlu, our First Nations Choreographic Dance Intensive.

If successful you will be given studio time, mentorship from Karul’s Artistic Director and Associate Artistic Director, free registration into Ngari Ngali-Wahlu, the opportunity to share your findings with a First Nations community audience and $5,000 to go towards fees, travel, accomodation ect.

WHEN

February 8th - Applications Close

February 27th - Successful Recipient Notified

April 6th - 15th - Residency Dates

April 15th - 17th - Ngari Ngali-Wahlu Intensive

PROVISIONS

  • $5,000 Bursary for fee, flights, accomodation, project costs.

  • Karul Studio Access for 2 weeks.

  • Registration to Karul’s Ngari Ngali-Wahlu Chroeographic Dance Intensive

  • Accomodation during the Ngari Ngali-Wahlu Intensive

  • A First Nations Only sharing on day one of Ngari Ngali-Wahlu (Friday 28th June)

ASSESSING PROCESS

Yagabaling will be assessed by a First Nations professional outside of Karul’s director team.

The application will assessed on;

  • The project merit

  • Benefit to the artist/s practice and career development

  • Why is now the right time for your project

APPLICATIONS TERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. This is a First Nations Residency opportunity.

  2. Applicants may apply individually or as a group/collaborators however the bursary will remain at $5,000.

  3. All applicants must identify as First Nations.

  4. If applying as a group the lead/applying artist must be First Nations Australian however the group can include First Nations artists from other International Nations.

  5. The applicant must have a dance practice.
